Much Wenlock & the Olymic Games
Home of the Modern Olympics
Much Wenlock, is proud to be the birthplace of the modern Olympic Games movement. In 1850 the local surgeon William Penny-Brookes founded the first Olympic Games- still held every year to this day!
His work inspired Baron de Coubertin to promote the idea internationally, which led to the Games in it's current form.
